This Emerald Lake wedding one of my favorite weddings that I hadn’t yet blogged. It’s one for the history books for sure! This was one frosty winter wedding! The temperatures had been very cold all week and by the time of Cheryl and Greg’s wedding day, the temperatures had dipped to -38 degrees celsius! It was cold! Not only did Cheryl and Greg, and their photographers from f8 Photography Inc. brave the crazy cold temperatures, so did their guests! Yes, that is correct! Cheryl and Greg had an outdoor wedding ceremony!
Cheryl is originally from South Africa. She and her Canadian fiance Greg, a pilot, had been living in Abu Dhabi. December is often a cold month here in the Rockies but in Abu Dhabi, December is a hot season. In fact, when Cheryl and Greg left Abu Dhabi, the temperatures were +40 degrees celsius! Most of Cheryl’s guests were also arriving from warm climates (South Africa and Australia). The couple, Cheryl in particular, was determined to give their guests the real Canadian winter experience. They definitely had it!
Luckily for Cheryl and Greg, they got to honeymoon in 30 degree plus temperatures in Aruba. I remember we were still experiencing the cold weather here in the Rocky Mountains when Cheryl and Greg sent me a photo of a secluded beach, and a palm tree they had taken while on their honeymoon.
I loved this Emerald Lake wedding and this couple! Cheryl couldn’t be more composed and calm despite things going awry around them (and things do tend to happen when it is cold…pipes freeze, camera equipment freezes up…well, just about everything freezes). But honestly, it was such a fun wedding. The couple was super cool and their guests were incredible. Seriously, not one complaint from anyone. I will always remember this wedding!
Cheryl and Greg’s favors were mini-Zulu shields. Cheryl grew up close to an area where Zulu people live in South Africa.
We made her a wood sign that told the legend of the Zulu (we also made the wood cake topper).
We wish Cheryl and Greg a lifetime of happiness!
